Our cities have long been the cradle of civilisation, entrenched with vast complexities from economic systems and technology but also rich culture, identity and natural ecosystems.
Sustainable development goal 11 focuses on sustainable cities and communities. However, this is inherently interlinked with 12 other sustainable development goals. If earth observation outputs do not address this complexity, then we risk creating simplistic outputs that fail to capture the nuanced and interconnected realities of urban systems.
So how do we address the disconnect between earth observation and sustainable urban development?
