SATELLITE DATA INTEGRATION FOR ASSESSING GHG EMISSIONS FROM FOREST FIRES: A USE CASE DEMONSTRATION IN TRKIYE

20 March 2025 11:30 - 11:45 Innovate 2

Speaker: Nathalie Morin, GeoVille GmbH, Innsbruck, AustriaAll nations of the Paris Agreement must report on their annual anthropogenic GHG emissions and removals in their national inventory reports (NIR) to the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Existing and future satellite missions provide the opportunity to fulfill the need for independent GHG Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) capacities. The scope of the BREATHE Project – EO-based enhancement and verification of GHG Inventories for Forest & Biomass was to develop a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) and prototype an Earth-Observation integrated MRV System of GHG emissions and removals from Above-Ground-Biomass (AGB) changes in Austria and wildfires in Trkiye.
