Head of Actionable Climate Information
European Space Agency (ESA)
Clement Albergel is the head of the Actionable Climate Information section at the European Space Agency (ESA). His tasks focus on implementing ESA’s climate program, the Climate Change Initiative (CCI), developing long term, global scale satellite-based time series of key components of the climate system. The climate-quality datasets produced by CCI are a major contribution to the evidence base used to understand climate change, which drives international action.
Clement Albergel received a master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, a M.Sc. degree in Environmental Science and a Ph.D. with a specialization in land surface modelling, land surface remote sensing from the University of Toulouse, France. Prior to ESA he has held position in the research departments of the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF, UK) as well as of the French Meteorological service (Meteo-France, FR) working on land surface modelling, remote sensing, and data assimilation.
PANEL: CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
This session will bring world experts to discuss how EO technology can be optimised to provide more precise data, whilst exploring the current challenges with global climate frameworks. The audience can expect to hear crucial perspectives on topics such as
